So with the release of iOS 7 and the redesign Apple had to update all of their Apps to match the new design. But something funny happened while they did this, their Podcast App has been broken since its release and there is no sign of a fix in site.

You see, it is 2014 and people now use their phones to listen to Podcasts. While some podcasts update automatically because they are available on iTunes, some are still manually downloaded and have to be synced from your computer to listen to them. The problem is that ones you download manually and sync yourself no longer work like they use to.

I have run into many problems with the issue, its not just one. One podcast use to still sync, tho it would only show me the latest episode in the podcast app. Although other episodes would still be on your iPhone and would appear if you did a search on your phone for them. But without deleting the current app being shown in Podcast, there was no way to listen to it. I found a fix that worked temporary, but it included purchasing a 3rd party app to edit the meta-data of the podcast file. This worked great until the entire podcast disappeared from my phone. I can no longer get it back and this leads me to my other problem.

I tried to add another Podcast I downloaded from the web, but for some reason no matter what I try I can’t get it to show up in the Podcast App. I had no problem adding a Podcast I subscribed to from iTunes.

So for now I have no way of manually adding podcasts from the internet to my phone, which makes my hour car ride to work each day less enjoyable. I spent hours trying to fix this today, I searched the internet and forums and there is no answer out there. Out of frustration today I even sent Tim Cook an e-mail as I was close to smashing my phone. I just would like an answer on whether this is the intention by Apple, something they know of or something they are working on a fix for.

Its great that you decided to upgrade and enhance something Apple, but next time please do not make sure you break it along the way…

    There is a way.

Using Safari on your iPhone go to the podcasts website and click on their RSS Feed, it will fire up the podcasts app and ask if you wish to subscribe.

    Or

Copy the RSS feed URL into clipboard and in Podcasts select Search, pasting the URL into the search box. That pretty much does the same thing.
